The Problem

You Want to Teach Your Kids About God — But You Don't Have a Plan

Raising children who know and follow God is one of the most important things you'll ever do…but if you are like most Christian parents you don't know how to do it and don't have a plan.

If you aren't equipped to teach your kids about God…

  • You feel guilty, discouraged, and afraid you're already falling behind.
  • When you try to teach your kids about God you feel like it's boring, forced, and you lack confidence.
  • You fear that you aren't doing enough and your kids will walk away from God when they grow up.
  • You love your kids and deeply want them to know God, but feel like you are failing.
  • Your children are being shaped by someone else's worldview right now.

The villain in your children's story has a name: the world.

Through screens, social media, and thousands of daily influences, the world is actively discipling your children right now — calling them toward lies, anxiety, and destruction. Someone is shaping what your children think is true, what they desire, what they choose, and who they become. Every single day. Whether you have a plan or not.

Many Christian parents see these fears become reality when their kids walk away from God.

I've sat with parents who watched their adult child walk away from God, from the church, and become estranged from their family because of their Christian beliefs. You know stories like this too. Kids who grew up in a Christian home. Kids who went to church every Sunday. But somewhere in the years between childhood and adulthood, the kid ended up following the world's way of thinking and living.

When I sit and talk with parents who see their teen or adult kids struggling, making destructive and painful choices, and not following Jesus they usually all say the same thing – "It just breaks my heart."

It's wrong that these parents that wanted to teach their kids about God end up heartbroken. They weren't bad parents. They wanted their kids to know, love, and follow God but didn't know how to teach them. They needed a plan and training. That's where we come in.

It's wrong that parents who love God were never equipped to teach their own children biblical truth — and no one ever gave them a plan.

Rise and Tell gives you a plan to change all of that.

Meet Your Guide

I'm Colin Mattoon — I've been a pastor for over a decade and have a Master's degree from a seminary. I've worked with kids for years in schools and the church, and have trained hundreds of parents and volunteers how to teach kids about God and the Bible.

And when I became a Dad, like most parents, I didn't actually have a plan to teach my own kids about God. None of my training and experience had prepared me for that.

So I did what I do — I started building. I took everything I knew from seminary, pastoral ministry, children's ministry, and years of working with families, and I began figuring out what actually worked in my own home. My wife and I tested things. We failed. We adapted. And over years of trial and error, a program took shape.

This is the plan I wish someone had handed me the day my kids were born.

Getting started is simple.

Most Christian parents want to disciple their children. They just don't know how.

We understand what it feels like to love God and love your kids and still feel completely unequipped to lead them spiritually. That is why Rise and Tell Ministries offers The Empowered Parent, an 8-step program that gives you the biblical foundation, practical skills, and a step-by-step plan to teach your children about God and make it enjoyable for your whole family. The Empowered Parent class is your pathway to stop feeling guilty and start feeling equipped, because parents who love God should never have to figure this out alone.

The Empowered Parent is structured as 8 Steps.

Each Step is made up of multiple Days of bite-sized content — roughly 5–10 minutes each. Every Day and every Step builds on previous content.

1

Empowered with God's Plan for Parenting

Learn God's plan for parenting from the Bible. Develop a vision for godly parenting and understand the calling God has for you.

2

Empowered to Know Who I Am

Step 1 shows where God wants us to go. Step 2 helps you understand where you're starting from — your family of origin, your parenting tendencies, and how unified you and your spouse actually are. You can't lead your family forward without knowing where you're beginning.

3

Empowered to Share the Gospel

Most Christian parents want to share the Gospel with their kids but don't know how. Step 3 gives you a clear, age-appropriate framework to present the Gospel with confidence — and practical tools to keep those conversations going naturally.

4

Empowered to Be Present & Engaged

You can't teach kids about God from a distance. Step 4 gives you the strategies to build and strengthen the kind of warm, connected relationship where your kids actually listen to you, trust you, and want to follow you.

5

Empowered to Teach Kids About God

Most families try to pray and read the Bible together but are inconsistent, don't enjoy it, and eventually quit. Step 5 gives you a proven strategy called Family God Time and the Make It Fun methodology — so learning about God becomes something your whole family actually wants to do because its fun.

6

Empowered to Model the Truth About God

Your kids are watching how you live. Step 6 shows you 5 things you can model at home that shape your children's faith as powerfully as any lesson — and teaches you how to turn your parenting failures into your most effective tools for teaching the Gospel.

7

Empowered to Provide Godly Discipline

Discipline is one of the hardest parts of parenting, and one of the biggest sources of conflict between spouses. Step 7 gives you a gospel-centered framework for correcting problem behavior and shaping your children's hearts toward God…with a unified approach as parents.

8

Empowered to Live It Out

You've built the foundation. You've developed the skills. Step 8 is where it all comes together. You'll complete your Parenting Playbook, launch your family's discipleship plan, and step into the confidence, joy, and peace that comes from knowing you're doing your part as a godly parent.

Coming Soon

When you aren't equipped to teach your kids about God, this is where it leads.

BEFORE: Without Being Equipped

You feel:
Guilty, discouraged, afraid, and overwhelmed.
You have:
Good intentions. No plan. No tools. No confidence.
An average day:
Church on Sunday. Silence about God at home. Hoping the church takes care of it.

Christian Parents who aren't equipped often live a life of fear that they aren't doing enough, and their kids will end up walking away from God when they grow up. These fears are justified because while you may be doing your best, the world is not waiting for you to get around to teaching your children about God. The voices of the world that are competing for your children's hearts and minds are not trying to draw your kids to God. They are shaping what your children think is true, what they desire, what they choose, and who they become.

A life built without God doesn't satisfy. It leads somewhere — and the places it leads have real consequences. For some kids it's anxiety, depression, and a fear they can't name or shake. For others it's turning to alcohol, drugs, or pornography to fill a void that never gets filled. For some it's being drawn into sexual sin, or being told that rejecting God's design for their gender or sexuality is the path to acceptance and peace — only to find that the promised liberation leads deeper into confusion and pain. For others it's a life that never quite gets off the ground — drifting, purposeless, stuck. For still others it's more subtle — a life built around work, money, and possessions, a soul shaped by screens and a thousand small distractions that keep the deeper questions at bay.

These aren't worst-case scenarios. They are ordinary outcomes for lots of people — and it leads kids to brokenness and parents to say "It just breaks my heart".

With a plan, here's where it ends.

AFTER: With the Parenting Playbook

You feel:
Equipped, confident, and genuinely excited to teach your kids about God.
You have:
A completed Parenting Playbook. A unified plan with your spouse. Practical tools that work. Kids learning about God and knowing the gospel.
An average day:
Family God Time your kids look forward to. Faith conversations that happen naturally. A home where God is not an afterthought.

Picture your child coming to you — but because they wanted to — to share something they read in their Bible that morning.

Your child at 22, off at college — grounded, thriving, choosing to follow God because they have their own strong faith built at home. Your child at 28, choosing a spouse who knows, loves, and follows God. Your child at 40, raising their own kids in the faith, carrying on what you started and teaching your grandkids to know, love, and follow God. Your child at 55, facing a crisis that should break them — and finding that their faith gives them a framework not just to survive it but to grow through it.

The Dumerauf family together outdoors

You can't save your children — only God does that. But you can be faithful to teach them and show them a godly life. You can plant deep roots. You can give them every opportunity to know and love God.

What Scripture makes clear is the weight of what we build into our children's lives right now. The conversations. The habits. The truth planted in ordinary moments. Having a consistent Family God Time. Years that feel unremarkable turn out to be everything.

Rise and Tell gives you the plan to make them count.

You came in feeling insecure and unequipped. You leave confident and ready. That's the transformation Rise and Tell is built to deliver.
